LinkedIn has launched the new upskilling data with ‘Skills Evolution 2022’ and ‘Future of Skills 2022’. The two reports respectively list the top 10 rising skills in India and the top rising skills across popular jobs and industries today in India.

As more organizations embrace a hybrid way of work, skill sets for jobs are shifting and new ones have also emerged. In these transformative times, learning in-demand skills can ensure greater access to opportunities.
To help employees identify these skills and future-proof their careers, LinkedIn has launched the new upskilling data with ‘Skills Evolution 2022’ and ‘Future of Skills 2022’.
Based on member skills data of LinkedIn’s 92 million members in India, the Skills Evolution report features the top 10 rising skills that have experienced month-on-month exponential growth in 2021.
Additionally, the Future of Skills 2022 data showcases the top rising skills across popular jobs and industries today, based on skills Indian professionals added to their profiles in 2021.

STATS ON JOB SKILLS ACROSS THE WORLD

More members are displaying skills and getting hired as new skills emerge

  • In 2021 alone, 286 million skills were added to member profiles.
  • Nearly half (45%) of hirers on LinkedIn explicitly use skills data to fill their roles on LinkedIn, up 13% year on year.
  • Globally, skill sets for jobs have changed by around 25% in the past five years and are expected to change by 41% by 2025.

TOP RISING SKILLS ACROSS POPULAR JOBS AND INDUSTRIES TODAY IN INDIA

As per data from LinkedIn’s Future of Skills 2022 report, here is how the skills in some of India’s most fast-paced industries are evolving:

Corporate Services

  • For Corporate Services in India, skills have changed an average of 41.6% since 2015
  • 9 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015.
    • Changes in the financial landscape reflect in the rise of popularity of skills like GST (#1), TDS (#3), Statutory Audit (#4) and Income Tax (#5), compared to 2015 when skills like team and vendor management, recruitment, negotiation were popular.
    • Tally ERP (#2) has replaced MIS as the accounting software of choice.

Software and IT Services

  • For Software and IT Services in India, skills have changed an average of 29.9% since 2015
  • 6 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015.
    • These additions include knowledge of new tools (Spring Boot), software’s (Jenkins), languages (Python, C) and cloud computing platforms (Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services).
    • Manual Testing also features as an up-and-coming skill in the IT sector.

Media and communications

  • For Media and communications in India, skills have changed an average of 26.1% since 2015
  • 6 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015.
    • As media goes online, skills like Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Web Content Writing, Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Blogging, Social Media Optimization (SMO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) dominate the list.
    • Hindi features at #5 on the list, opening up avenues for non-English speaking professionals in the industry.

Consumer goods

  • For Consumer Goods in India, skills have changed an average of 34.4% since 2015
  • 9 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015.
    • Tally ERP (#1) features alongside Management Information Systems (#9) as amongst the rising software skills in the industry.
    • Distributed team management (#7) and GST (#2) skills to watch out for post-pandemic.

Healthcare

  • For Healthcare in India, skills have changed an average of 30.2% since 2015
  • 5 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015.
    • Pharmacovigilance (#2) and Good Clinical Practice (#7) feature among the newest additions to the list, indicating a growing consideration for safety, integrity and well-being in the industry.
    • Clinical Research (#3) has gone up 4 ranks from #7 since 2015.

Manufacturing

For Manufacturing in India, skills have changed an average of 25.8% since 2015.

  • 6 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015. These included:
    • Software skills like SOLIDWORKS (#10) and AutoCAD (#9).
    • Process improvement skills like Production Planning (#8), 7QC Tools (#7), PPAP (#6) and 5S (#5).

Hardware and Networking

  • For Hardware and Networking in India, skills have changed an average of 32.5% since 2015 — slightly higher than the country average (29%).
  • 8 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015.
    • Telecommunications is the #1 rising skill
    • Top 3 languages to feature on the list are: Python (#6), Core Java (#3) and C (#2)
    • Linux (#8) and Kubernete (#5) have replaced Unix as the Operating System of choice.

Finance

  • For Finance in India, skills have changed an average of 28.4% since 2015.
  • 7 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015.
    • Branch Banking and Branch Operations feature amongst the new skills, indicating a focus on offline service.
    • Banking software Finacle (#8) is the newest and the only banking software skill to feature on this year’s list.

Education

  • For Education in India, skills have changed an average of 33.5% since 2015.
  • 7 out of the top 10 rising skills in the industry are new compared to 2015.
  • Interestingly, most top rising skills for the industry remain tech-heavy:
    • Programming language skills C++(#3), Python(#2) and C (#1) occupy the top 3 slots.
    • Other languages like HTML (#10), CSS (#8), and Java (#7) feature amongst newly added skills.
    • Machine Learning (#9) is a new skill in demand as interest around AI grows across industries.
